It was reported that kefir
has anti-cancer effect through
animal experiments as well as
immunity reinforcing effect
through in vitro & in vivo
researches. It was also proved
that kefir showed some protection
effect for the cell destruction
caused by ultraviolet rays in
human melanoma cells. Oda et
al reported that polysaccharide
produced by Lactobacillus helveticus
var jugurti is composed of glucose
and galactose in the ratio of
two to one. After an experiment
of the abdominal administration
of 20mg/kg and 80mg/kg of polysaccharide
for two mice with induced S-180
ascitical cancer, it was found
there were 144% and 233% extension
effect of the life span of each
mouse. Shiomi reported that
after the oral administration
of water-soluble polysaccharide
extracted from Kefir grains
using hot water for two mice
each with induced Ehrlich carcinoma
(Ehrlich solid cancer) and Sarcoma
180 (ascitical cancer), there
were 40-49% and 21-81% growth
inhibition effect of cancer
cells in each mouse. It was
also reported by Liu that when
the oral administration of milk
and Kefir was performed for
two tumor-bearing mice, the
growth of sarcoma tumor cells
of each mouse had been inhibited
by 64.8% and 70.9% and apoptotic
tumor cell lysis had increased.
Like this, Kefir is known for
the effect of health improvement
and longevity due to its functions
of immunity reinforcement, cancer
protection, and digestion.
